Simone Wise is an Adelaide based visual artist, whose work is influenced by the tradition of still life painting, particularly Dutch Golden Age paintings of the 17th century. This genre is heavy with symbolism and meaning; the artists knew that the objects they were representing had a life, status and meaning beyond their obvious daily functions. She uses the familiar aesthetics of these still life masters to show cherished objects in a new light: to elevate and honour them, and show their true value. Her highly detailed and painstakingly created paintings and drawings are a meditation on love, loss, memory and family.
